About these terms

These Terms explain Bifolium’s trial, purchases, content handling, connected features, and this website, provided by Fernando Flores. “We” and “us” mean the provider. You must have legal authority to enter an agreement, or have any parent or guardian authorization required by applicable law. Someone acting for an organization must have authority to do so.

Your App Store download is also governed by the end-user license identified in its listing. Where no custom license is supplied, Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement applies. These Terms supplement that software license and do not replace it. If these Terms conflict with that license on a software-license matter, the license controls, subject to mandatory law. The Apple Media Services terms also govern your relationship with Apple. No provision here removes rights you have under applicable consumer law.

Bifolium reads Markdown and plain-text documents, keeps highlights and notes, and offers local search and related-passage matching, editing of supported files, export, and optional GitHub and iCloud features. Supported platforms are iPhone, iPad, and Mac; individual features and system requirements can differ by platform and app version.

Your files and annotations

You retain your rights in your files, highlights, and notes. Bifolium does not acquire ownership of them or a right to sell, publish, or use them to train models. You are responsible for having the permission needed to open, download, edit, sync, export, or share content. A public repository or freely accessible page is not necessarily free to republish.

You authorize the handling needed to provide the features and actions you choose, such as local display, indexing, editing, recovery storage, export, selected downloads, and private iCloud publication. Support material you deliberately send us is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

Files opened in place remain in their existing locations. Highlights and notes are stored separately and do not change the source document. Sharing a file into the app, saving GitHub content, or making a paper available through iCloud can create a separate reading copy.

Keep backups of important files and export annotations you need to retain independently of the app. A cloud file provider, another app, the operating system, or a storage failure can affect originals or stored data. Removing a source, deleting annotations, or clearing a saved copy can remove material you may later want.

Editing, rendering, and export

Editing is available for existing, writable .md and .markdown files after you enter Edit mode. Saving writes back to that file. Plain-text files, GitHub snapshots, and synced reading copies are read-only. On Mac, editing the original of a Synced Paper writes to that original.

Bifolium checks whether a file has changed before saving and can ask you to resolve a conflict or reopen a moved file. These safeguards and local recovery drafts reduce the risk of lost work; they do not replace your own backups or guarantee recovery. Recovery history is limited to seven days and 50 snapshots per document, subject to maintenance and storage availability.

Markdown dialects, large files, missing resources, and unsupported or unsafe content can affect what appears. The rendered view or an export may differ from another app or the original source. Related results and search matches can be incomplete or wrong; check the source before relying on them.

PDF, HTML, annotation exports, and saved web pages are copies. They may omit resources that are missing, blocked, unsupported, or unavailable offline. Creating a copy does not expand your rights to distribute its contents.

The 30-day trial

Bifolium offers a payment-free, 30-day trial of the whole app. It begins when your first user-selected document successfully opens for reading, after the app presents the trial information. Installing or launching the app, viewing its welcome document, a failed open, or using Finder previews does not start the trial.

The trial does not require a purchase, renew automatically, or charge you when it ends. It runs for 30 elapsed days. Trial dates are kept locally and in the device Keychain, and reconciled through your private iCloud when available. This preserves the trial across devices; reinstalling or switching devices is not intended to start a new trial.

You may buy access at any time. Buying monthly access during the trial begins billing immediately and does not pause or restart the trial. The trial can start without an internet connection or iCloud; incorrect system time, damaged records, or unavailable storage can affect verification.

Permanent and monthly access

After the trial, you can buy a one-time permanent unlock or an automatically renewing monthly subscription. Both provide the same app access across iPhone, iPad, and Mac through the applicable Apple purchase account. There is no separate permanent free tier or annual plan.

The App Store purchase screen shows the current price, currency, billing period, and any applicable taxes before you confirm. Apple processes payments and subscriptions. A permanent unlock is a non-consumable purchase with no recurring Bifolium access fee. It gives continuing access to the app covered by your purchase. We will not convert that existing unlock into a recurring charge for the functionality it covers. Permanent access does not promise that every future operating system or third-party service will remain compatible or that we will develop and support the app forever. Any legal obligations to provide updates remain unaffected.

A monthly subscription renews automatically unless you cancel through Apple before renewal. Apple charges the payment method associated with your Apple Account under the price and billing terms shown at purchase and any later price-change notice. You can manage it using the app’s Manage Subscription action or your Apple Account subscription settings. Follow Apple’s cancellation instructions and the renewal deadline Apple shows. Cancellation normally stops future renewals while preserving access through the paid period, subject to refunds, revocation, and applicable law. Deleting the app, disconnecting GitHub, disabling iCloud, or stopping use does not cancel a subscription.

Buying permanent access does not cancel an existing monthly subscription. Cancel the subscription separately if you no longer want it to renew. Monthly payments do not count toward the permanent purchase. Buying permanent access does not automatically refund earlier subscription payments or unused time; any mandatory refund rights remain intact.

Purchases use the same purchasing Apple Account across supported platforms. Family Sharing is not included in the launch offering. Use Restore Purchases to ask Apple to restore eligible purchases. Access depends on verified purchase status; refunds or revocations can remove the associated entitlement. Apple handles refund requests under its rules and applicable law; see Apple’s refund instructions. Nothing here limits any refund or other remedy you are entitled to by law.

When renewal cannot be checked, the app allows up to 72 additional hours of offline access. Those 72 hours begin after the later of the verified subscription expiry and the end of any verified Apple billing grace period; that grace period does not consume the 72-hour allowance. A confirmed lapse or revocation removes that allowance. This is not a new subscription term or a guarantee of indefinite offline access.

When access ends

Once you have access, reaching the trial or subscription deadline does not interrupt reading or editing while the app remains running. Bifolium checks trial dates and purchases again when you quit and reopen it. Moving it to the background or opening another window does not trigger that expiry check. If there is no remaining access, the app opens its purchase and data-retrieval screen. A successful purchase or restore can unlock it immediately.

Expiry does not delete your original files or annotations, and does not shorten the existing retention rules. Retrieve Your Data remains available for existing highlights and notes, retained editing drafts and recovery history, downloaded GitHub and Synced Paper editions and their available resources, retained shared documents, and saved reference archives.

Retrieval uses material already on the device; it does not fetch missing copies or bypass account and file-access safeguards. Settings, help, privacy and account controls, Restore Purchases, and read-only Finder previews remain available. Normal reading, editing, new annotations, search, source updates, and other full-app operations require access.

GitHub, iCloud, and web content

GitHub

GitHub sources are read-only snapshots of selected repository content, not working copies. Bifolium does not push changes. Private sources require authorization through a connected GitHub account on that device and access to the selected repositories.

Manual refresh and optional Keep up to date checks depend on GitHub, network access, permissions, and rate limits. Automatic checks run while the app or source is in use, not as a scheduled closed-app service. A snapshot can be older than the current repository. Changed permissions or deleted repositories can prevent updates; downloaded content can remain until removed.

Synced Papers

On Mac, you can select documents or a folder to make available on your iPhone and iPad through your private iCloud. Publication requires Bifolium to be running on the Mac. Replicas are read-only; they do not write back to the original. Folder selection can include new supported files unless you exclude them.

Sync depends on the correct Apple account, available iCloud storage, network conditions, file permissions, and the devices completing their work. An upload confirmation does not mean another device has downloaded it. Keep an independent backup; sync is not a substitute for one.

Images, websites, and extensions

Remote images, external links, the iPhone/iPad reference browser, and its optional content blocker depend on services or content we do not control. Saved offline pages may be incomplete or out of date and can contain private information from a signed-in page. Where offered, uBlock Origin Lite is a third-party extension, not software authored by us. You choose whether to install it and grant its disclosed reference-page access. It can change page display and behavior, and does not guarantee that every advertisement, tracker, or harmful page will be blocked. Its authors do not sponsor or endorse Bifolium.

Your use of Apple, GitHub, file providers, websites, and other services remains subject to their applicable terms and privacy policies. Bifolium does not grant rights to their content or imply their sponsorship or endorsement.

Responsible use and licenses

Use Bifolium lawfully and respect other people’s copyrights, privacy, and access restrictions. Do not use it to obtain content you are not authorized to access, attack or disrupt a service, or evade purchase or trial eligibility. These terms do not restrict activity that applicable law or a third-party open-source license expressly permits.

Bifolium includes third-party software and on-device model components. Their applicable licenses and notices govern those components, including any rights they grant independently of these Terms. The optional uBlock Origin Lite extension has its own software and filter-list notices. Nothing here overrides those licenses.

Availability and your legal rights

To the extent allowed by applicable law and the app’s end-user license, Bifolium and this website are provided as available. We do not promise uninterrupted operation, compatibility with every file or future system, complete search results, or continuous availability of third-party services.

We may update the app or change or discontinue a feature, subject to existing purchase commitments, Apple’s rules, and applicable law. We will not use an update to impose recurring charges on an existing permanent unlock or remove mandatory consumer remedies. Where reasonably possible, we will give notice of a material discontinuation and preserve a way to retrieve retained local work. This does not promise unlimited future maintenance or excuse any legal obligation.

The applicable end-user license governs app warranties and liability, subject to rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability where doing so would be unlawful or limits the remedies available under mandatory consumer law.

The Privacy Policy explains data handling. It controls if these Terms differ about personal information, subject to applicable law. Agreeing to these Terms does not turn on Usage & Diagnostics or replace consent needed for an optional use of data.

Changes and contact

For material changes to these Terms, we will provide reasonable notice and state when the changes take effect. We will seek acceptance where required by applicable law. Changes do not retroactively remove rights attached to an existing purchase or authorize new data uses requiring separate consent. Price changes and subscription renewals follow Apple’s notice and billing processes.

You can stop using Bifolium at any time. Manage an active subscription separately through Apple. If you want to remove stored or synced data, use the relevant app and service controls before uninstalling.

Contact us for app-specific support. We provide support and maintenance as required by applicable law and any express commitment we make. Unless separately agreed, we do not promise a particular response time or resolution. Apple does not provide Bifolium’s app-specific support.
